TEDxKelowna- “What We Learned From 350 Million Kids”

Hello penguins, long time no post! My life’s been really busy these days and I obviously haven’t had time to blog, nor have I signed up for CPI. I’m doubting I ever will to be honest, it’s just not my interest anymore. And yes, I’ve heard about Rewritten, but I really don’t see the need to sign up.

Regardless, I came across a really interesting video on my WordPress dashboard from a post on Club Penguin Mountains. It’s a TED Talk about Club Penguin featuring Lane Merrifield, better known as Billybob. He talks about CP’s humble beginnings to the response from the fans- the love that formed what we knew as the Club Penguin community. It was really touching and nostalgic for me and I was surprised to find that it doesn’t have more views!

The part that stuck with me most was what Billybob said at the end about Club Penguin shutting down.

“…what I what I realized was that they weren’t upset about missing the mini-games, they’re not sad about[…] losing the ninjas…or the activities that were going on in Club Penguin. What they were most afraid of- what we’re all afraid of- was losing the incredible sense of community that had grown within the Club Penguin world… and I’m so, so thankful to have had an opportunity to be a part of that community. I’m so thankful to have had a front row seat to so many amazing kids lives. And most of all I’m incredibly privileged and honored… I mean to see their creativity is amazing. I’m incredibly privileged and honored to have been able to serve side-by-side with such an amazing team that took their imagination and their creativity and brought it to life every single week. And so I just want to say… you know, I firmly believe that our world would be a much better place if all of us were just a little bit more childlike. If we could learn from these kids, and maybe be a little bit more fearless with our creativity, if we could help each other out a little bit more, if we could be generous with one another, if we could work together a little bit better. If we can become better at sharing when things are frustrating to us, or are hurtful or harmful to us… you know sometimes[…] we maybe just need to take a breath and not take life as seriously, not take ourselves as seriously. But most of all, maybe for today, we can all start by taking just a little bit more time to listen.”
I’m not crying, someone’s chopping onions. Just watching this video made me feel honored that I was one of those kids once and that I was part of that awesome community. Maybe I was even one of the blogs they looked at! But thank you, Billybob, for those kind and inspiring words- no one could have said it better than you.
Waddle on, Greeny.

An Afterword- Screenhog and Polo Field

Hello penguins,

I’m assuming everyone here is pretty familiar with Screenhog and Polo Field at this point. Both of them have made very heartfelt and honest posts about their thoughts on Club Penguin’s closing.

Read Screenhog’s post, “When a World Ends”, here.

Read Polo Field’s post. “How Club Penguin Changed My Life”, here.

Honestly, I teared up reading Screenhog’s post. The comments made me cry even more. Thank you, Screenhog, for your love and dedication for Club Penguin. May the future bring you even brighter horizons.

Polo’s story about the game code and Card Jitsu hit me hard too. I played the EPF DS game nonstop when I was younger; I beat it roughly four times. I was also the only one out of my friends to own the game day Wii game and I’m very proud to have those stamps in my stampbook. I was also lucky enough to get my hands on a physical Card Jitsu and I treasure it as a part of my childhood. Also, the Aunt Arctic story is very sweet. Thank you personally for recognizing my blog when I first started; it meant a lot to me.

Maybe I’ll post my physical collection once I get around to my catalog posts. Those are definitely going to come after February.

Waddle on, Greeny.

Spike Hike LEAVING Club Penguin

Hello penguins… I never thought this tragic day would come, but Spike Hike is leaving Club Penguin. Here’s the official post from the man himself:

Hey penguins,

The time has come for me to waddle on to my next adventure – and so I will be leaving Disney.

Getting to spend time with you all in Club Penguin has been one of the true joys of my life, and it has been for my family too, as all three of my kids have grown up with you in the Penguin community. I want to thank you all for so many special memories and especially thank the Penguin team for all their hard work and amazing creativity over the years!!

I couldn’t make this move if I didn’t feel you were in good hands and I have to say, the best is yet to come! Project: Super Secret looks amazing and should be ready for you to beta test in the next few months.

As proof, the team has given me one more sneak peek to share and here it is: [CLICK THE PICTURE TO WATCH]

Of course, I couldn’t say goodbye without one more party and so Spike Hike will make a special farewell appearance tomorrow, Sept. 8 at 3:30pm Penguin Standard Time on the server Fog. If I don’t get the chance to see you Sept. 8, I’ll definitely be back for special events like the launch of Project: Super Secret and anniversaries!!

YOU are what makes Club Penguin so special! Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

Waddle On,

-Spike Hike

I would like to say THANK YOU to Spike Hike for leading the Club Penguin community and team for all these years! You’ve done an awesome job at CP and I wish you the best of luck in your future, wherever it may lead you. Without you, Project Super Secret wouldn’t have come this far and I think that the preview is awesome. It’s sad to see you leave and I’m sure the community will miss you.

Thanks for everything, Greeny ❤

Star Wars Bots?

Hi penguins, it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted… yikes! Anyways, I logged in for the Finding Dory party today (it’s so cute) and saw a penguin surrounded by other penguins. They were all moving together.

bot1

It was kind of scary, actually.

bot2

I asked the penguin in the center how he did it and all he said was “not mine”. I’m assuming most of his message got cut off by the filter. Another thing about the filter, did you know that “try our famous New England clam chowder” will go through? I found that weird.

bot10

I’m not really sure why I wrote this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Waddle on!

Field Friday 4/29/16

Hey penguins! So my phone died and I decided to log into CP on a whim when a buddy icon popped up on one of the servers. I was lucky enough to get and see FIELD FRIDAY! Even though Polo left CP???

Either way it was pretty cool.

fieldfriday29-1

Here’s Polo’s player card (still the same as always!) I said hello and…

fieldfriday29-2

I got a postcard! Thanks so much Polo!

fieldfriday29-3

After that, he challenged us to a game of Find Four in the Ski Lodge!

fieldfriday29-4

In the Ski Lodge :0

fieldfriday29-5

Here he played with Cookiecat107 (cool username btw!)

fieldfriday29-6

As it turns out, it’s Bloo1999‘s birthday! Happy birthday, Bloo!

fieldfriday29-7

Finally, here is Polo’s igloo.

fieldfriday29-8

Here is the info for Bloo’s party:

Again, happy birthday Bloo! Thanks Polo for taking a little time out of your day to surprise everyone!

Club Penguin Halloween Panic! Special 2015

Wow that title felt weird to write. Panic! At the Dance Club amirite

Happy Halloween penguins! This Halloween, Club Penguin has released a Halloween special called “Club Penguin Halloween Panic!”. The 30 minute stop-motion animation follows the plot of a penguin named Blizzard, who prefers tricking over treating. After ruining his friend’s Halloween igloo, he befriends another prankster- but he’s a ghost! They accidentally release a swarm of spooky ghosts on the island :0 I won’t spoil the rest, but it’s pretty cool.

Watch it THIS WEEKEND ONLY on the blog here!

Fun fact- does the voice of Gary sound familiar to you Disney fans? It’s Wallace Shawn, aka Rex from Toy Story!

Club Penguin Tenth Anniversary Walkthrough

Hey penguins! I’ve been waiting for so long for this moment to FINALLY happen- the CP 10th anniversary! Without further ado, let’s begin!anniversary1

When you first log on, the Club Penguin mascots will welcome you! HAPPY TENTH ANNIVERSARY!anniversary2

Aunt Arctic explains about the calendar- everyday there’s a new prize. anniversary3

Here are the free prizes! I’m impressed with the selection.anniversary4

While the Town is mostly generic-anniversary, there’s a little Prehistoric… thing?anniversary14

When you go into the Coffee Shop, Aunt Arctic welcomes you and tells you to take a party hat.anniversary5

This year’s party hat is wild! On player cards, it’s animated.anniversary6

The new yearbook is on the table. I’m not going to spoil it, but it gave me a lot of feels.

anniversary7

PH is at the snow forts with the old Puffle Party! Note the “super rink” sign.anniversary10

You can go to Puffle Feeding too, a classic CP party game.anniversary11

The Plaza is decorated with the 2013 Summer Jam, which was Teen Beach Movie themed (I think).anniversary12

This is Rookie’s favorite party.anniversary13

You can go onto the highway and ride your vehicle or walk.anniversary15

The ticket booth from the Stage is still there…

anniversary41

In the forest, Rockhopper is hosting the 2010 Adventure Party! I loved this one, there were so many new furniture items for it!

anniversary16

The old Forest rock in the left corner tho.

anniversary17

When you click on the ladder, you can go into the cabins above. Hover your mouse over the birds and throw a snowball at the plant 😉

anniversary18

The Cove is decorated for the Temple of Fruit Adventure Party from 2012. I don’t remember that party very well, but that was the party that Smoothie Smash was introduced in.

anniversary19

This is Dot’s favorite party.

anniversary20

The only 2015 party featured is the Pi Day mini-party.

anniversary21

This is Gary’s favorite party. What’s your favorite kind of pie? I like cinnamon apple.

anniversary22

At the Docks, there is the ever-known Camp Penguin Party from 2007! I’ve only heard stories about this party :0

anniversary23

This is Aunt Arctic’s favorite party.

anniversary24

The Ski Area is decorated for the 2011 Music Jam. The music there is very exciting.

anniversary25

This is (obviously) Cadence’s favorite party.

anniversary26

If you go inside el Casa Fiesta, there’s a little dance floor and some instruments.

anniversary27

The old Ski Hill design is back! It was introduced in August 2006.

anniversary28

The June 2009 Adventure Party is growing outside the Lighthouse. This Sensei’s favorite party.

anniversary29

Inside the Lighthouse is Puffle Hospital from the April 2014 Puffle Party.

anniversary30

The Summer Kickoff Party from 2007 is on top of the Lighthouse.

anniversary31

The Iceberg is from 2008 April’s Fools party. Get it?

anniversary32

I hoped they would have made the Clothes Shop the old Gift Shop but they chose the 2014 Prehistoric Party.

anniversary34

The Pizza Parlor is decorated with the 2013 CJ party.

anniversary33

The Dance Club has a pool in the 2006 Summer Party.

anniversary35

The Lounge is decorated with the 2011 Holiday Party, probably my holiday party favorite next to the one where we could turn into the ice penguins.

anniversary36

You can play the sleigh game and get prizes even though it’s out of season.

anniversary37

The Book Room is sp00py with the old 2008 Halloween Party! I think this was my first party!

anniversary38

If you click on the candle, you open up a secret passage to…

anniversary39

…Gary’s Monster Maker 3000! The lever doesn’t do anything :/

anniversary40

The Mall has only been decorated once I think, so they used the Merry Walrus decor. Did you know those are the only escalators in Club Penguin?

anniversary42

Finally, the oldest party is the 2005 Holiday Party. I miss the old ice rink.

anniversary43

These parties brought back a LOT memories from when I was younger. Thank you CP for throwing a wonderful party full of throwbacks. Congrats on 10 years!

anniversary44

Star Wars Rebels Walkthrough

Welcome back penguins! Today I will walk you through by far CP’s worst party I have seen. It’s so sad, I almost cried. Literally, the party is so dumbed down, it’s not even entertaining. It’s so bad I don’t even want to post today’s walkthrough. I’m just making this post to rant, really. At least the loading screen is nice.Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.01 PM

When you log on, Kanan will pop up and tell you that his squad is going to stop “the Empire”. No idea what he’s talking about. And Kanan is not Kanaya, let me tell you. Yeah, I’ve been into Homestuck recently.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.11 PM

He tells us we have to do a task for each person.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.15 PM

CP sadly went all out for this party. They didn’t have to. No really, they didn’t have to. I want to see this kind of effort put into original parties, like Merry Walrus.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.26.42 PM

And the pun in the town is so painfully bad.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.31 PM

To get to the quests, click on the Rebels icon. Click on “view task” (obviously).

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.42 PM

The first task is to help Sabine paint over the Imperial posters. Meh.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.25.50 PM

Throw a snowball (YAY ANOTHER PARTY WITH THE PATTERN OF THROWING SNOWBALLS TO GET STUFF *LOUD SARCASM*) to cover a poster.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.26.03 PM

When you finish, you can get a bunch of future-y sci-fi gear.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.27.26 PM

Next, click on the guy who looks like he walked out of Attack on Titan. And those eyes. Herpa derpa.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.27.40 PM

Okay, when I was doing the quest, I noticed Attack on Titan guy was calling the evil people bucketheads. It’s one thing to be mean to evil people. It’s another thing to call them bucketheads.

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.28.49 PM

When you finish that task, you can fight can dress up like Attack on Titan guy. ((ANIME TAKEOVER CONFIRMED))

Screenshot 2015-01-22 at 5.29.01 PM

Honestly, this party is really boring. I have no interest in going on. At all. Another month of my membership wasted.
