Is Club Penguin Slowly Meeting Their End?

Based off of this post by the lovely Trainman1405.

In the last two or three months, the CP community has been slowly breaking down with problems. In my opinion there are two sides to the problem: hacking and Disney.

I’m going to try really hard to make this sound like a valid debate and not like a rant, so bear with me.

For hacking, we can all tell that Club Penguin has obviously not been on top of their game with patching all the item adders and loopholes. I have no idea how easy/hard it is to recode the website to not be hacked, but keep in mind that if they don’t patch everything, staff’s and paying member’s personal information could be at risk of being found. It sounds a bit dramatic, considering I have trusted Disney with that kind of stuff, but it’s totally possible.

Disney, Disney, Disney… where do I begin? To start, I’m going to list all the good things Disney has done to help CP:

  • Bought CP and basically kept them in business from 2009-present
  • Gave them new ways to improve their game (awesome graphics don’t make themselves!)
  • Shut down their other virtual worlds THAT WERE STILL MAKING MONEY to keep CP
  • Hired new employees and interns (job opportunities!)
  • Made CP available internationally in different languages

On the other hand, Disney has made CP into their own little ad world, but you have to understand that that’s wise marketing. If you don’t like all the takeover parties, you have to take a step back and look at the big picture. You see, Club Penguin is an international online world that appeals to kids, right? Wouldn’t it be wise to take their biggest, most precious online world and actively promote it for multiple things? It’s like saying “I have parties every weekend at my house, everyone’s invited!” and then using that as an opportunity to be known for being so popular and having so many friends (does this only make sense to me?). Well, that’s what Disney is doing, but they’re taking it as a chance to make more money. You have to understand, Disney isn’t what it used to be. They’re now one of the biggest, richest companies in the world and there are people out there trying to stop Disney from basically conquering the world (which I’m sure Walt Disney didn’t really want…). They’re always looking for ways to make more money, whether it’s building more hotels on their property, making new shows, etc. Maybe CP isn’t their main focus right now, and we might have to deal with it.

What do you think?
